Programs

Victim Services of York Region is a non-profit, charitable agency that works in partnership
with York Regional Police and the O.P.P. to provide 24 hour emotional support and practical assistance
to persons victimized by crime or tragic circumstance.

On-Scene Response

Victim Response Teams are on call 24/7 to York Regional Police and Ontario Provincial Police in York Region for on-scene interventions

We attend a home, hospital, crime scene or police station with police for crisis interventions.

Victim Quick Response Program (VQRP)

The Victim Quick Response Program has been established and funded by the Ministry of the Attorney General Victims and Vulnerable Persons Division to provide timely assistance to victims of the most violent crimes.

This program is designed to offer immediate financial assistance to victims of:

  • Homicide (including attempted murder)
  • Serious Physical Assault
  • Domestic Violence

  • Sexual Assault
  • Hate Crime
  • Human Trafficking

Referrals may be received from Police services in the province of Ontario, sexual assault centres, domestic violence shelters, emergency services, community agencies and self. In all cases, service providers are paid directly by the VQRP rather than to the victim.

Who is eligible for these services?

  • A victim is eligible for these services if he or she has reported a violent Criminal Code offence to police services in Ontario, domestic violence shelters, sexual assault centres, emergency services or community agency providing services to victims of domestic/sexual assault
  • The crime occurred in Ontario, on or after June 30, 2007
  • The victim resides in Ontario

  • An application for counselling must be submitted within 90 days of the crime
  • An application for emergency expenses, crime scene cleanup or funeral expenses must be submitted within 45 days of the crime
  • There are no other financial resources available, i.e. insurance, workplace EAP, Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program
  • The victim has not previously received funding from the VQRP for the same criminal offence
  • The funds are expended in Ontario

Homicide Survivor Support Group

Remember Me is a homicide survivor’s support group that provides emotional support and information to homicide survivors. Remember Me is a self help group offering emotional support and information to those affected by the loss of a loved one to Homicide. Victims helping Victims.

Please note, this is a support group of, by and for homicide survivors. The group is open to anyone who is a survivor of homicide, from York Region and the surrounding area.

Suicide Bereavement Support Group

Please contact us at 905-953-5363 if you’re interested in attending a suicide bereavement support group. The groups are 10 weeks in duration and are hosted in York Region.

Telephone follow-up assistance and community referrals are provided to persons victimized by crime or tragic circumstance

Community Collaboration

Victim Services participates on a variety of community committees addressing the needs of persons victimized by crime and tragic circumstance.
